Nice are reportedly intent on signing Nicolas Pepe on loan from Arsenal this summer as the striker has fallen down the pecking order in North London.
The Ivory Coast international signed from Lille on a club registration deal in 2019 but failed to reach the level.
While Pepe has shown glimpses of his talent, he has never chained up the kind of form that would warrant a long streak of first-team football, and he now finds himself behind all Gabriel Martinelli, Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka in the peck order wide, while Fabio Vieira and Eddie NKetiah could also be in competition as well.
With all that in mind, an exit seemed the most likely scenario this summer, and with Nice claiming they wanted to agree a loan deal, with foot market also claiming that the player wants to return to the French league where he was so impressive before, this deal could well make sense for everyone involved.
The only thing I can see with the deal is whether a bond or an option to buy is included in the process, while the fact that it has less than two years left on its current terms could be a huge negative point for us, because we would lose a lot of value if we were to end up trying to find a new buyer in 12 months.
Anyone shocked that we’re having trouble selling Nico this summer? Hasn’t he shown enough to warrant interest from a number of respectable clubs?
