Hibs withdraws Europa Conference broadcast plans as Santa Coloma offers alternative

Hibs fans face the prospect of a TV blackout for their crucial Europa Conference League second leg following the club’s TV turnaround.

Hibs TV had planned to broadcast the clash with Santa Coloma on pay-per-view, but disconnected the broadcast.

The Easter Road team spoke to their hosts a and the Andorran federation and said the decision was made “because of concerns about the quality of the broadcast of the match”.

A club statement read: “We pride ourselves on providing fans with high quality coverage and don’t want to charge unless we can be sure the match coverage will be up to our standards and filmed with multiple cameras.

“We had secured the rights to be the only broadcaster to broadcast the game live, but we reversed that decision due to quality issues.”

However, Andorran FA will now offer a single camera feed that can be viewed for free on YouTube.

Jack Ross’ side are on the brink of the next round of the Europa Conference League qualifiers as they win 3-0 in the second leg.

In the first leg, Martin Boyle’s penalty got the hosts off to a good start, Joe Newell’s direct red card, which, upon inspection, was a shocking decision.

Boyle then put ten men 2-0 shortly after the break before the referee equalized with a straight red for the visitors, then reduced them to nine men with a second yellow.

Kevin Nisbet was then denied a goal before scoring 3-0 moments later to give his team some more breathing space.
