Motherwell in UEFA request to change Conference League fixture dates as fans warn to ‘delay’ travel plans

Motherwell hopes their Europa Conference League clash can be reversed as bosses urge fans to delay travel plans.

Graham Alexander’s side will face either Bala Town or Sligo Rovers in the second qualifying round of the competition next season.

The first leg is scheduled to take place on Thursday July 21 with the first leg scheduled for Thursday July 28.

But the club are looking to delay the home fixture in a bid to give their new ground an extra week to develop.

Motherwell chief executive Alan Burrows has confirmed on social media that the North Lanarkshire side have submitted a request to UEFA and both clubs to change the dates.

And the CEO urged Motherwell supporters to delay booking their trips until the club receives a response from both directions.

Posting on Twitter, Burrows said: “Exciting and great draw to be back in European football. If fans could wait book travel arrangements (if you haven’t already).

“In order to give our new ground a further week’s growth, we have asked UEFA and both clubs to change the dates.

“There is no confirmation of this yet (it may not even be possible), and the dates given by UEFA could still be valid, but we hope they will be confirmed as soon as possible. “

Motherwell are set to embark on another European adventure in the 2022/23 campaign after a year’s absence.

Graham Alexander’s side have clinched fifth position in the Scottish Premiership this season, guaranteeing entry into the second qualifying round of the Europa Conference League.
