Azerbaijani football club Qarabağ FK has reached the brand new Europa League Conference.
On Thursday, the Scottish Aberdeen conceded three goals of Qarabağ FK in the play-off return leg at Pittodrie Stadium.
The Azerbaijani team finished the first half of the game with a 2-0 lead thanks to midfielders Tural Bayramov and Kady Iuri Borges Malinowski. Abdullah Zoubir made three shortly before the end of the match in the 72nd minute.
Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson scored his club’s only goal on a second-minute penalty shot, added to the game’s full-time 90 minutes.
With the overall score after two games, Qarabağ FK won a ticket to the Europa Conference Conference 2021-2022. In the first match in Baku on August 19, the Azerbaijani team beat their rivals 1: 0.
This year Europa League Conference is the first edition of UEFA’s brand new football competition. The annual tournament is the third level of European club football after the Supreme Champions League and the second best Europa League. Clubs can qualify for competition based on their performance in domestic leagues and cup competitions.
Qarabağ FK’s group stage qualification is eighth in a row european travel for the club since 2015. Previously, the club made it through the group stages of the Europa League six times and have already achieved the same success in the Champions League.
Meanwhile, in the other matches of the tournament, Kairat Almaty of Kazakhstan won 3: 1 over Luxembourg’s Fola to secure his participation in the group stage. Neftchi PFK’s Azerbaijanis lost 0: 4 to Israel’s Maccabi Haifa and lost chances to join Qarabağ FK and Kairat Almaty in the group stage of the 2021-2022 Europa Conference League.
The 32-team group stage to design of the tournament took place on Friday. Qarabağ FK and Kairat Almaty were placed in Group H alongside Swiss Basel and Omonia FC Cyprus. The first games of the group will take place on September 16. Kairat Almaty will host Omonia FC in Kazakhstan, while Basel will travel to Azerbaijan to play for Qarabağ FK.
