The club are called “Glimt” which means Flash and with their title victory in 2020 they became the first team from northern Norway to win the Elite. They did it in an exciting way, scoring 103 goals in 30 games, winning 26 times and finishing 19 points ahead of second-placed Molde.

Despite losing their attacking line to three, they managed to prove once again the pundits wrong by adding a second title, this time with a three point advantage over second place. They scored 44 fewer goals but conceded only 25.

The two league titles are their only major successes in the 105-year history.

Glimt plays in a distinctive all yellow kit.

Kjetil Knutsen – the most successful manager in the club’s history. Arrived as an assistant to Aasmund Bjørkan before being promoted to main post after Bjørkan moved on to sporting director.

Patrick Berg – The 24-year-old has impressed at both domestic and European level with his intelligent play in midfield, in possession and out of possession. Composed with the ball, uses it very well and is adept at rushing in and recovering it.

Glimt has never met a Scottish team in European competition. This season was the first time they had qualified for the group stage of a European tournament and they raised eyebrows when they beat Roma 6-1 in Norway.

The team won all three of their home games and drew on the road to finish second, one point behind the Italian giants.

Their most famous European victory before this year dates back to 1994 when they beat Sampdoria in the Cup Winners’ Cup, but ultimately lost on both sets.

Former St Johnstone and Falkirk player David Weatherson, who ended his career in Norway, noted that Glimt’s side could be different as they face Celtic with the end of the Norwegian football season and the January transfer window on the horizon.
