Breaking: Tottenham eliminated from the Europa Conference League after being forced to forfeit a suspended match against Stade Rennes

Tottenham Hotspur have been forced to drop their suspended UEFA Europa Conference League game against Stade Rennes due to several positive cases of covid-19. This means the North London side have been eliminated from the UEFA minnow competition.

The match between Tottenham and Stade Rennes de Ligue 1 scheduled for December 9 was initially suspended after the Premier League confirmed several positive cases of covid.

The case was then referred to the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body for a decision. It has now been confirmed that Tottenham must forfeit the game, which will be an automatic 3-0 loss.

With the result now decided, it means Antonio Conte’s side have been eliminated from the Conference League. A competition that was invented by UEFA for extra money, with teams that can’t even make the Europa League.

Tottenham found themselves favorites for the competition, which they failed to respect. A loss to Slovenian side NS Mura was one of the main embarrassments of the campaign, now complemented by the failure to advance to the group stage.

Antonio Conte now has the opportunity to focus at the national level, fighting for the top four and perhaps pushing for a cut to fill in the blanks.
