RadioTimes.com tells you everything you need to know about the Europa Conference League.

What is the Europa League Conference?

The Europa Conference League is UEFA’s third club competition designed to fit into their club tournament system below the Champions League and Europa League. The new format begins at the start of the 2021/22 season.

The Champions League is expected to be reformed in the coming years, but for now it will work in familiar ways.

However, from this season the Europa League group stage is expected to drop from 48 teams to 32, the idea being that it is more difficult to qualify for the second tier tournament and more teams from quality will creep into the Europa League Conference.

It has been confirmed that 10 teams eliminated from the Europa League play-offs will join UECL.

The winners of each group will advance to the round of 16, while the teams placed second in each group will face the teams placed third in the Europa League to determine who will also advance to the UECL round of 16.

What happens if you win the Europa Conference League?

The winner of the Europa Conference League will automatically be awarded a place in the Europa League for the following season, unless he qualifies for the Champions League.

It remains to be seen whether the tournament is truly embraced by teams that already field often weakened teams in the Europa League, but the allure of silverware – whatever it is – will always be a draw.

What are the European Premier League places?

Now the big question, the multi-million pound question: which Premier League teams will qualify for the Europa Conference League?

The top four teams will qualify for the Champions League. The top three will all slide effortlessly into the group stage, while the fourth-placed team will have to go through a qualifying round first.

The teams ranked fifth and sixth will automatically qualify for the Europa League.

The road for England teams to qualifying for the Europa Conference League is to finish seventh or win the EFL Cup.

It’s that easy, really.
