In the return leg of the Europa Conference League qualifiers, 1. FC Union Berlin parted ways with Kuopion PS 0-0. It was enough for Copenhagen to advance to the group stage of the international tournament.

1. FC Union draw against Finnish club Kuopion PS in the second round of the qualifiers for the Berlin Europa League. This means that the Bundesliga team have entered the group stage of the new international tournament and now expect attractive opponents in Friday’s draw in Istanbul.

Despite a 4-0 lead in the first leg, the guests immediately put pressure in front of 22,000 spectators and created several chances. Union forward Taiwo Avoni had the opportunity to score the first goal in the 8th and 9th minutes of the game. Only the double scorer in the first leg dominated the left side of the opponent’s penalty area and passed the ball. The Nigerian then headed for goal after a balanced cross, but guest goalkeeper Johannes Kritl said goodbye in a flash. Five minutes later, Copian’s keeper snatched another head in the air, this time from Robin Noch.

After the initial phase of Storm and Trang, the hosts shifted to one or two gears without losing control of the game. This livened up the fans and the junior slogans could be heard over and over again at the Olympic Stadium, where the Hertha PSC usually plays at home. It was in this context that the first guest attack took place. When defender Timo Bomcard adjusted his basic shoe to the side, the Finns took advantage of the brief excess. Virinen came out of the turn, but Union midfielder Timothy Buchas blocked the valley.

Shortly before the break, 1. FC Union Berlin should have taken the lead. Christopher Trimmel passed the offensive team too quickly in front of Cedric T-shirt, who raced over Taio Avoni. But Union attackers shot the ball free in front of Copian’s goalkeeper. The 24-year-old would not have missed the opportunity in the first game. Turkish referee Hull then requested a break in Umud Meller’s dressing room.

Union fans opened the second part of the game with a fireworks display. They lit up the Olympic stadium with yellow and red torches. UEFA will of course be fining Köpenickers for this. Ten minutes later, the smoke came out and the fans themselves were only distracted by the sound. During this time, no fireworks exploded in the meadow.

That changed in the 56th minute. Duchard sent Sheraldo Becker vertically as he passed Avoni. But the Finnish defense concentrated and destroyed the corner, which did not bring further union opportunities. Union coach Urs Fischer Taiwo Awoniyi then moved on to Andreas Vokalsamar, while Becker replaced Kevin Behrens. Two new forces immediately put danger in the penalty area for the guests, capturing the ball, but the Buchas ultimately clearly missed.

And the hosts again. After a precise free kick from Trimmel in the 67th minute, his defending teammate Manuel Friedrich dived into a diving header. But the attack ended in the hands of the Finnish goalkeeper. And his colleague Andreas Lot was able to differentiate himself. After Nislay’s hard blow, the Union goalkeeper put his right hand on the ball.

Then the intermission continued: Marcus Ingwarden came for Genki Haraguchi and Julian Ryerson for Christopher Trimmel. Ars Fisher sticks to his position-based trading policy. In the 75th minute, goalkeeper Louth broke again a great opportunity for Kuopion PS. Harala walked freely into the penalty area and tried to tunnel against the union keeper, but the last time he squeezed his legs and blocked the goal.

At the final whistle neither side had playing accents, so 1. FC Union Berlin and Kuopion PS parted 0-0. Copenhagen advanced to the group stage of the Europa League and the Finns were eliminated.
