Patriots QB – Bailey Zappe – 2022 Draft, Pick 137

Q: Where were you when you got the call and what was your first reaction when you got drafted?

BZ: Yes sir. I was at home in Victoria, Texas with my family when I got the call. It’s surreal and a dream come true. I can’t wait to get up there and get to work.

Q: What do you know about Mac Jones and this QB room?

BZ: He’s a phenomenal quarterback. He’s a great QB, just like the rest of the QBs in this room. I’m really looking forward to learning from these three guys and getting up there, meeting them and doing whatever I can to help the team. I’m really excited about this opportunity.

Q: How surprised were you to hear the Patriots say that many weren’t expecting a quarterback this year?

BZ: Everything was going to be a surprise when I got drafted. I’ve been looking forward to this moment for so long and it’s something I’ve been dreaming about ever since I started playing football at age five. Getting that call from the Patriots was amazing, and I’m more excited to get there, get to work and meet my teammates, meet everyone in the organization and get ready to start playing football.

Q: What were your pre-draft conversations like with the Patriot team?

BZ: I got to talk to a lot of teams and really talk to everyone throughout the Senior Bowl and the Combine. This whole process has been amazing, and it’s been a dream come true to build relationships with so many people. I’m really excited to have this opportunity and can’t wait to face the Patriots and get to work.

Q: What specific things did you discuss with the Patriots during the Combine and the Senior Bowl?

BZ: It was like any other interview. We talked about the ball, talked about the background, and came up with an idea and started building that relationship really with each team. That’s how it happened. I like to keep these conversations private between me and the coaches and scouts. I can’t wait to get up there and get to work.

Q: How would you describe your game day preparation process?

BZ: The majority is watching the movie, getting into the theater, doing whatever you can to learn and keep growing and obviously helping the team win. That’s the most important thing is to win. My mindset coming into this organization is to do everything I can to help the team win. I can’t wait to get there and get to work.

Q: What are your greatest strengths as a player and passer?

BZ: There is a lot of room to grow. As a member of this organization, there will be opportunities for me to get to that point and grow as a QB. I think some of the strengths are, I love football, I love learning about the game, my knowledge of the game, continuing to work on precise ball placement like every QB wants to work. By being part of this organization, I will be able to learn from so many coaches and players. I’m excited to step into the QB room and work with them.

Q: How have you been living for the past two years?

BZ: Nothing less than a dream come true. It’s something I’ve been dreaming about ever since I started playing. To be in that position, get the phone call, get drafted, and say I’m an NFL quarterback is surreal to me.

Q: What do you think about having only one university offer?

BZ: Coming out, I only had one offer. I always dreamed of playing in the NFL. I felt like I just needed one opportunity and I got it. To be here and look back has been a long and fun journey. Like I said, it was a dream come true to be in that position, to be drafted by the Patriots, a great organization, it’s surreal to me. There is still a lot of work to do from now on, and I can’t wait for this start, and I want to get to work.

Q: Do you play with a chip on your shoulder?

BZ: I continue to be myself. I’m not trying to be someone else. I will come to work every day and be one percent better. That’s how I see it. I don’t worry too much about naysayers and critics. The Patriots believe in me, and these coaches, players and organization believed in me and these are the people I’m going to try to prove right, that this choice was the right one.

Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp Leaves Press Conference Room In Stitches With X Rated Gaffe

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp leaves press conference room in stitches with X-rated gaffe

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hasn’t made many mistakes since joining English football in 2015, but even when he does there are hilarious consequences.

Jurgen Klopp discusses new Liverpool contract

Jurgen Klopp cut a frustrated figure a few weeks ago, but with his squad flying on all fronts and a new contract agreed, the Liverpool boss appears to have been lifted a weight off his shoulders.

His more relaxed demeanor has been clear in his media engagements, despite a month that could see the Reds become sporting immortals. With the remaining season just weeks away, Klopp’s side remain in contention for all four major trophies.

The Carabao Cup is already safely stored in Anfield’s trophy room, while its place in next month’s FA Cup final against Chelsea has already been secured. A 2-0 victory over Villarreal also means they have a foothold in the Champions League final, while the battle for the Premier League title looks set to be over.

But if Klopp is feeling the pressure, he doesn’t show it and was able to share a joke with reporters ahead of this weekend’s trip to Newcastle. In footage that has since gone viral, a member of the gathered press mentioned the term “brain fog.” But Klopp, speaking in his second language, thought it was something more explicit.

“Why can everyone say that word and if I say it, it’s wrong?” answered the German. He then clarified that he thought the individual said “brainf***” earning more than a few laughs from those in attendance.

Klopp himself found it funny and had a good laugh and admitted it sounded exactly the same to him. His jovial mood was said to have only improved over the weekend as his side went down 1-0 at St James’ Park.

HAVE YOUR SAY! Will Liverpool win the treble this season? Let us know in the comments

Jurgen Klopp saw the funny side after he misheard a reporter during his pre-match press conference

The Magpies entered the Saturday lunchtime kick-off in fine form, having won their last five games in front of their own fans. But the visitors took control relatively early and more than deserved the 1-0 victory thanks to Naby Keita’s goal.

Keita’s goal saw the Reds climb to the top of the Premier League at the expense of Manchester City, although they would drop back to second place if the champions beat Leeds United at Elland Road.

Nonetheless, Klopp was happy with how his players handled the task at hand, especially with the quick turnaround in Wednesday night’s game against Villarreal.

“You can have a fit team, a crowd that’s been waiting for ages to succeed, so coming here with five changes and building a new setup is really tough,” Klopp explained. “So the performance was absolutely exceptional, I loved it. We had moments where we struggled because it’s so difficult.

“The impact we have off the bench in the game is exceptional, we expect a lot but the boys have to deliver. But Joe Gomez, what a game. Naby Keita, what a game. James Milner, what a game. Andrew Robertson, 93rd minute , current, absolutely brilliant.

When asked if they were focusing on City, he added: “No, on Villarreal. That’s what interests me. I didn’t think of City, just Villarreal.

Tyquan Thornton Conference Call 4 29

Tyquan Thornton Conference Call 4/29

0

Patriots WR – Tyquan Thornton – 2022 Draft, Pick 50

Q: Congratulations, first of all. For those who don’t know you, what are your greatest qualities and what type of player do you bring to New England?

TT: I’m ready to learn the game and come day by day to improve and work. So that’s what I bring to the New England Patriots is bring a lot of excitement, and I’m willing to learn and work with the coaches and the players here as well.

Q: Can you tell us where you are right now and what it was like when you got the call?

TT: I’m in Miami, Florida right now, my hometown, and I’m here at home with my family and with my mom, my dad, my two little boys, my girlfriend, and all of us. Getting the phone call from the New England Patriots, I mean, it was a dream come true. Just seeing my family’s smiles and everyone applauding made my heart race. It was a feeling I had never felt before.

Q: If I’m not mistaken, you know Gillette Stadium. What can you tell us about your impressions of the stadium and your time here?

TT: I love the stadium. It is very beautiful. Being there just for the day I was there, I mean, I was amazed.

Q: Welcome to New England and congratulations on your draft. I wanted to ask you about this visit. How was it and what did you learn about the Patriots, and what did they learn about you?

TT: I learned a lot about the history of the Patriots, man. Just walk around this facility and see the photos and all the greats that have passed through this facility. You know, I was really excited just to be there, and I was on top and just meeting the coaches and seeing the plans and everything they do, it was really awesome.

Q: I just wanted to ask you in the Baylor attack, were you mainly playing X, Z? What role did you play in the attack?

TT: I feel like I’m playing at Baylor, they prepared me pretty well. I just ran different offenses for the first few years, my first year and my second year, and then Coach Brown came along and brought in a different offense, you know? I feel like they prepared me in regards to site adjustments and route conversion. I learned all the positions, from L to Z, so I don’t just learn one position. You have to learn the whole concept.

Q: I just wanted to ask you about your last season at Baylor. It looks like you’ve taken quite a leap forward, what happened to take you to the next level and how do you think your speed will translate to the NFL?

TT: I feel like what made the big step was staying true to the process. At Baylor, we’re talking about pounding the rock. So always hit this road, knowing that it’s not going to break the first shot, so just keep doing this work day and night and stick to the process, then you’ll start to see results.

Q: And obviously you ran 4:28 at the combine, how do you think that speed will translate to the next level?

TT: I think it’s going to translate pretty well and just getting into the building and working with the coach and working with the players and just learning new things. So, you know, it’s just putting it together with my speed, I can’t wait to see.

Q: Where does this speed come from and have you always been this fast? When did you remember knowing that you were faster than everyone else?

TT: So I was always a speedster growing up. I mean, I raced track growing up, so at a young age, I was about 12, I would say. In my first year on track I won the Junior Olympics with, I’m not going to say a lot of practice, but I mean, so I was naturally fast, but I was kind of like a long walker. So when I got to college I had speed because I was out of high school and just adding the weight room to my game allowed me to be a lot more explosive. So like I said, add to the process, put the weight room and everything in there, and I got more explosive and now my speed has gone to a different level.

Q: How much do you think growing up where you lived in Miami helped improve your game as a football player?

TT: It helped me a lot to raise my game as a football player. Growing up in Miami, there’s a lot of adversity. There’s a lot going on outside of you that you can’t control. So, I mean, it’s basically football. You have to control what you control, so you have to come every day, put your head down and go to work. You can’t worry about what’s happening around us.

Q: I was just wondering what were your initial impressions of Bill Belichick based on some of the conversations you had with him and your thoughts on preparing to play for a coach like him?

TT: Oh man. I already love him, man. He’s a big process guy. That’s all we talked about at Baylor, staying true to the process and I’m very excited to work with him and come in every day and learn my job. I am ready to learn. I am ready to compete and learn with the coaches.

Q: Have you ever heard of Mac Jones and what are your impressions you have of him based on what you watched of him while he was in Alabama or last year with the Patriots.

TT: Oh man. I mean, I watched it at some games in Alabama. He’s a stallion, man. Just knowing he’s a Florida guy too. He plays at a high level. He’s a great quarterback and I’m happy to work with him.

Q: I just wanted to ask you, growing up, did you follow the Patriots and what does it mean to be drafted by the Patriots organization and what do you think of the Patriots?

TT: I mean, sure, I watched the Patriots. Tom Brady. I mean, they won a lot of Super Bowls there and that defense was pretty good. I just remember watching a highlight video of pick six and them blocking gold on the field and turning it over for a touchdown and Tom Brady and all those touchdowns and everything. I mean, the Patriots, they’re a very historic team. I knew a lot about them, and I was impressed with what I thought just being there in New England and just being where you are in the same hall that Tom Brady once walked through and those other greats who walked through the building. I was very excited to be there.

Q: When did you expect to be drafted?

TT: I really didn’t think when or where exactly, but I mean, I expected to be drafted on day two.

Q: If you could describe your playing style, how would you describe it?

TT: I would describe him as very versatile and I’m very coachable. So, you know, right here in New England, getting ready to work with the coaches, I’d like to adjust my style and critique it any way I can and I’m just ready to learn and grow. Definitively.

Q: During your visit, who did you meet and what was your impression of the coaching staff?

TT: I met the two receiving coaches and we talked a bit and met different coaches. I met different coaches, but I just met them and talked about the ball and saw what kind of coaches they are and what kind of people they are too. We had good conversations and they were nice people, and I was very excited to be there and I’m also excited to work with you too.

Q: Do you model your game after anyone in particular?

TT: Yes. I try to model my game after Davante Adams. I love how it creates separation up the road and at the line of scrimmage as well. So I try to mimic that a bit with my outings and running route, while adding some speed to it.

Q: Why do you think the Patriots viewed you as such a candidate and why would you fit here?

TT: Like I said before, man, I come from a program like Baylor University where we stick to the process. The process is all we know. You have to know your job and you have to do your job to a high standard, and I feel like that’s something I did during the four years I was at Baylor. So I mean, I’m ready to make it happen and the power of God, definitely.

Leicester And Roma Draw Feyenoord Edge Marseille In Conference League

Leicester and Roma draw, Feyenoord edge Marseille in Conference League

0

Premier League’s Leicester City and Jose Mourinho’s Roma played out a 1-1 draw in their European Conference League semi-final first leg on Thursday.

The energetic Foxes were stunned when Nicola Zalewski found space on the left to set up Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini for an opener against the run of play in the 15th minute.

But Ademola Lookman met a cross from Harvey Barnes in the 67th minute to force an own goal from Gianluigi Mancini which secured parity on the night for Brendon Rodgers’ side.

“I thought I took a gash on it and maybe it hit him afterwards,” Lookman told BT Sport. “They are a strong team, very good defensively but we played well today.

“It will be a difficult match (in Rome), the away game, the atmosphere, their fans, we will need our fans behind us.

“We’re looking forward to the challenge – we’ll go there to try and win the game.”

Mourinho’s Roma, however, will be confident of finishing the job in front of their own fans in next week’s second leg to reach the May 25 final in Tirana.

“The second leg is going to be a tough game, but we’ll play it at home, in front of our fans,” Pellegrini said.

“We will be motivated to do our best.”

The former European champion Feyenoord is the slight favorite to progress to the final after winning a thrilling five-goal 3-2 against Marseille in the other game of the last four.

Cyriel Dessers netted the opener and the winner for hosts Rotterdam who also had Luis Sinisterra on the scoresheet.

Bamba Dieng and Gerson equalized Marseille at the break but Dessers pounced on an error early in the second half to give the Dutch a slight lead.

Leicester Hold Roma As Feyenoord Edge Marseille In Conference League Semi Finals

Leicester hold Roma as Feyenoord edge Marseille in Conference League semi-finals

0

RIYADH: Africa are yet to complete their Champions League semi-finals but Monday’s announcement that the final will be held in Morocco did not sit well with Egypt whose football governing body is ready to take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Last weekend, Cairo giants Al-Ahly beat ES Sétif of Algeria 4-0 in the first leg at home to put more foot in the final and stay on course for a third straight continental title provided they avoid disaster in Algiers on Saturday (although Sétif prepared for the second leg by beating Relizane 7-0 in the league on Tuesday).

In the other game of the last four, Wydad Casablanca won 3-1 away against Angola’s Petro de Luanda and returned to Morocco for the second leg on Friday, have every chance of booking their place for the final which will take place on May 30. .

On Monday, just 48 hours after the first leg, the Confederation of African Football announced that Morocco would host the final for the second consecutive year.

A CAF spokesperson said: “CAF received offers from Senegal and Morocco and after the Senegalese offer was subsequently withdrawn, Morocco was awarded the hosting rights.”

With the final likely to be between Al-Ahly and Moroccan Wydad, the decision in Egypt sparked widespread anger. In a letter to CAF, Al-Ahly called for the match to be played elsewhere.

In a statement, the club said: “Al-Ahly stressed in the letter that the final should not be hosted by any of the countries of the four teams participating in the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League and that a neutral venue will provide equal opportunities for all four teams.

“Al-Ahly stressed that the match should be played at a neutral venue, since CAF did not choose the host country at an earlier stage, noting that giving one of the four teams the home advantage in the final contradicts the standards of fair play.

“Al-Ahly expressed his full confidence in the professionalism and fairness of CAF and his commitment to preserving equal rights for the four competing teams.”

Al-Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane led the team to the last two continental titles and took to social media to comment on the decision.

In a message, he said: “When the CAF Champions League group stage matches ended there were rumors that SA (South Africa) would host. After the semi-final matches were decided, there was a big silence on the country to host the final. Then, after the first leg of the semi-finals, suddenly, Morocco hosts.

The club’s stance was supported by the Egyptian Football Association.

EFA board member Amer Hussein said: “The decision to choose the venue came late, after playing the first legs of the semi-finals, and that’s strange. It would have been preferable to hold the final in a neutral stadium or to announce it at the start of the tournament.

“The timing of the game itself is illogical. How can the Champions League final take place shortly before the national teams are in international action? »

Egypt are due to face Guinea in Cairo on June 2 in the opening match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, just 48 hours after the Champions League final. Several Al-Ahly players are members of the national team.

Behind the scenes, CAF officials informed that they had no choice in the matter as only Morocco remained after Senegal pulled out. Unlike Europe, where final sites are announced years in advance and there are usually a number of interested parties, Africa has struggled to attract neutral sites.

The confederation is considering a return to the old two-legged home-and-away format to avoid such controversies in the future.

Naturally, Wydad AC coach Walid Regragui was at pains to point out that his side had yet to book their place in the final and was also keen to point out that the two-time champions didn’t care where it was happening.

He said: “We are ready to play anywhere. CAF has decided to play the final in Morocco, and we must respect their decision. It doesn’t matter to us where the final will take place. We are ready to play in Dakar, in Istanbul, or anywhere else. We have won four away wins in this edition and we are ready to claim a fifth.

Assuming Al-Ahly and Wydad pass the second legs, there will certainly be more feuds to come before the end of the month.

Roma Suffer Injury Ahead Of Europa Conference League Semi Final Against Leicester City

Roma suffer injury ahead of Europa Conference League semi-final against Leicester City

0

AS Roma would be without midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan for the second leg of the Europa Conference League semi-final against Leicester City.

City travel to Rome on Thursday night with a tie in the balance after the first leg at the King Power Stadium. The scores remained level after the first 90 minutes with City equalizing in the second half as Gianluca Mancini put the ball into his own net under pressure from Ademola Lookman.

This means who will play in the competition’s final on May 25 will be decided in a 90-minute showdown in Rome, in front of a crowd of around 70,000. The winners will face either Marseille or Feyenoord, with the Dutch currently leading 3-2 after the first leg.

Reports in Italy now claim that former Arsenal player Mkhitaryan will miss the second leg against City through injury. The 33-year-old started the first leg but was forced off the pitch just before the hour mark.

According Calciomercato , the midfielder is expected to be unavailable for 15-20 days which means he won’t be available for selection for the second leg. The report claims Mkhitaryan has suffered from ‘suspected muscle strain’ and will ‘certainly’ miss both the Serie A clash against Bologna at the weekend and the visit to City.

The midfielder has played a total of 43 games in all competitions this season, scoring five goals and providing another nine assists. He has been with Roma since joining from Arsenal in the summer of 2020.

He is one of several former Premier League players in Jose Mourinho’s side. Chris Smalling and Tammy Abraham also started the first leg against City, while former Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Veretout was also substituted in the second half.

The teams could not be separated after an engaging first leg of this UEFA Europa Conference League semi-final.

Match in brief: Leicester fight for a draw

Leicester, who made their debut in the European semi-finals, started the strongest of the teams and forced a number of early turns. James Maddison’s best from set pieces picked out Timothy Castagne’s run at the far post, but the Belgium international was unable to direct his powerful header towards goal.

The game as it happened: Leicester 1-1 Roma

However, Roma grew in the game and took the lead with a sweeping attack. Switching play from the right flank to the left in his own half, Nicola Zalewski lowered the wing before making a delicious pass through the Leicester defense for the run of visiting skipper Pellegrini, who spent his arrival in Kasper Schmeichel’s legs.

The Foxes started the second half on the front foot and almost capitalized when Marc Albrighton’s inswinging corner picked Ademola Lookman into space, but the 24-year-old mistimed his jump, heading accordingly.

Just like in their quarter-final second leg, some mid-game personnel changes paid off for Brendan Rodgers. He introduced Harvey Barnes just after the hour mark, and it was the midfielder who played a key role in the equalizer five minutes later. Barnes burst into the Roma penalty area before clipping the ball for Lookman, but Mancini, in his haste to reach the cross before the Leicester man, could only help him into the net for the Rome.

The home side smelled victory and only a superb save from Rui Patrício prevented substitute Kelechi Iheanacho’s curling effort from nestling in the corner of the net.

A much better second-half performance from Leicester, who took advantage of Roma’s increasingly deep fall to fit better into the game. Given their dominance in the second half, they may even kick each other for not going any further, but as things stand this tie is well balanced. Roma will support each other at home, but as the last draw showed, Leicester can hurt anyone.

Roma couldn’t capitalize on the opening goal against a Leicester City side who looked a bit sharper. As inertia seemed to set in for Jose Mourinho’s men, Rodgers’ changes breathed new life into the Foxes, who were well worth the draw. Everything is open for the second leg, where the Giallorossi will need Tammy Abraham and Nicolò Zaniolo at their best.

Reaction

Brendan Rodgers, Leicester manager: “I think we played very well. We really dominated the game. They have dangerous players but I’m very happy with the performance. You come to the semi-finals and you want to start well, bring your pace and intensity in the game. The only thing missing was the final touch of quality in the final third.

Ademola Lookman, Leicester midfielder: “There were times when we broke them. We created chances but it’s a shame we couldn’t get the win. It will be a tough game in the second leg with the atmosphere and their fans behind them. We will go there to try and win.”

Jose Mourinho, Roma head coach: “I think we would have lost this game five or six months ago. We had the guts to start strong, pressing hard and giving them little space. Then our energy level went down, we took it a goal we could have avoided and now there will be a final on the line in Rome.”

Lorenzo Pellegrini, Roma captain and goalscorer: “We knew it wouldn’t be easy to come here. They’re a great team, so we’re delighted and ready to go again. Coming away from here with the score at 1-1 before the second leg at home is definitely a plus. The way we approached the game this week should serve as a model for next week.
