Conference call from Colts head coach Frank Reich
Message from Frank Reich to his players:
“As bad as yesterday – and you see it in all sports – you’re not that far off. Every year teams go from last to first.”
The Colts have 15 games to play.

Frank Reich spoke to the media about his message to the Colts players after the humiliating shutout victory and is absolutely right that the performance was poor and it was basically just one game with 15 others to go. to play. However, the Colts are two games into their 2022 campaign and haven’t put together evidence that either the team or the fans can test positive. They have 15 games left to play, but if the Colts don’t pull themselves together soon, it’s going to be a long season that Reich himself might not survive.
Reich says the Colts hope Pittman Jr. is out for one game. The team thinks he has improved well over the weekend.

Reich went on to talk about the health of catcher Michael Pittman Jr. Pittman missed the Jaguars game with a quadriceps injury he suffered in practice last week. Pittman was sorely missed yesterday, but with the Colts’ poor showing, it was hard to see that playing him would have changed the outcome of the game. The Colts neglected to significantly upgrade an offseason wide reception room that struggled a lot last year instead of only adding rookie Alec Pierce who also missed the Jaguars game. The Colts need help at wide receiver and this loss could force general manager Chris Ballard to rethink his plan for the job.
Reich admitted that the way the week went injury-wise made it harder for Nyheim Hines to get more shots as a WR.
Admitted that on Thursday he thought Pittman Jr. and Pierce would both play on Sunday

Nyheim Hines was supposed to be more involved against Jax. Only 15 snaps and 1 rush, 5 targets
The lack of offensive efficiency and the total number of games (48) disrupted the plans. Still determined to get JT his keys.

Frank Reich then talked about the plan to try and schedule a game with the Colts’ top two wide receivers for the Jaguars game. It’s hard to play a game without the top two teams, but even though Reich thinks both would play on Thursday, the top coaches are able to adapt quickly and change game plans to compensate for injuries. The Colts neglected to do so and that, along with numerous other shortcomings, cost the Colts the game on Sunday. Hines managing just 15 total snaps on offense is a bad move by Reich and the Colts coaches. Hines is a huge playmaker on offense and should be a big part of the game plan every week, not just one when injuries hit the wide receiver position.
Reich on Shaquille Leonard:
Reiterates that Leonard is doing everything he can to get back there.
Says Leonard has a responsibility to the team to only come back when he can play ‘winning football’.
— Kevin Bowen (@KBowen1070) September 19, 2022
Reich then addressed the status of linebacker Shaquille Leonard, who has missed both Colts games so far. The Colts’ defensive performance this season has been very poor and the team badly needs the return of its star defensive playmaker. Leonard adds so much to the defense, but with how well the whole unit is playing, it’s hard to see how Leonard’s return would change the whole defense at this point.
