Hibs gets quarter of capacity in Conference Europa League after Santa Coloma tickets sell out in 15 minutes

Hibs’ first batch of tickets for their opening Europa Conference League clash sold out after 15 minutes – and now the club have secured more tickets to bring the total attendance to 4,700.

Easter Road chiefs have been in contact with decision-makers at Edinburgh City Council regarding Thursday’s home game against FC Santa Coloma d’Andorra.

Initially, they wanted 10,000 fans – which would have been the highest yet for a Scottish club team since supporters started returning to stadiums across the country, but just under the 12,500 who have been allowed inside Hampden for Euro 2020 matches in Scotland.

Celtic were only given the green light for 9,000 fans before Aberdeen cleared 5,655 and Hibs is in talks with local authorities.

Now, the capital has revealed that an additional 2,700 tickets will be available to accompany the standard 2,000 that sold out in 15 minutes, pushing the overall crowd to around 25% of capacity.

A statement read: “More Hibernian fans will have the chance to welcome the return of European football to Leith when FC Santa Coloma visit Easter Road on Thursday evening (22 July) in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League.

“The club are pleased that talks with Edinburgh City Council regarding a waiver of Easter Road capacity for the game have borne fruit and that an additional 2,700 tickets will now go on sale from tomorrow at 10:00 am to 2021/22 season ticket holders. This will bring the overall capacity to 4,700 for the match. “

Meanwhile, opponents Santa Coloma have announced that Thursday’s week-long second leg will be played in an empty stadium in Andorra.

The club said: “FC Santa Coloma want to announce that the home game against Hibernian will take place behind closed doors and no tickets will be available.”
