Gers’ 2-0 victory over Sparta Prague secured them a place in the Europa League play-offs, while the Celts found themselves in the knockout stages of the Europa League Conference.

The Hoops were already assured of European football after Christmas – but the 3-2 defeat at Leverkusen ensured they were in third-tier competition.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst secured his reign on a flyer and with Brondby losing at home to Lyon, his team finished second.

But who could the teams face in the next round of fixtures in the new year?

When is the Europa League play-off draw?

The draw will take place on December 13.

It will be produced at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland.

16 teams will be present – eight runners-up from the group stage and eight third-placed teams from the Champions League group stages.

The Europa League runners-up will be seeded with teams eliminated from the unseeded Champions League.

When is the Conference League play-off draw?

The draw will also take place on December 13.

It starts at 1pm – an hour AFTER the Europa League draw.

16 teams will be in attendance – eight Europa League Conference group stage finalists and the eight third-placed teams from the Europa League group stages.

Teams entering the competition from the Europa League will not be seeded, with teams placed second in the Conference League being seeded.

When will the Europa League and Conference League play-offs be played?

The first legs will take place on February 17.

The return matches will be played the following week, on February 24.

The winners at this stage of the competition will advance to the Round of 16 of their respective competition.

Current state of play?

Rangers will finish their group in second place and therefore advance to the Europa League play-off round.

Celtic will advance to the Europa Conference League Round of 16 after finishing third.

Who are the potential opponents of the Old Firm in the two competitions?

Fueled by a win from behind against Leeds, Tottenham Hotspur have reason to believe things are going well. Antonio Conte started his tenure with a few wins and a draw, and the schedule ahead is busy, but winnable. Nothing sums it up better than Thursday’s trip to Slovenia.

Spurs are in second place in Group G after four matches, three points behind the Rennes leader. As a reminder, the Europa Conference League offers a knockout round of the knockout stage, so winning the group offers an advantage. This means that the game against NS Mura must be worth three points.

That’s a pretty reasonable request for Conte’s team. Tottenham sent Mura 5-1 home, a side which have also lost their other three group stage games. Sitting just fifth in the Slovenian PrvaLiga, it’s a lopsided competition that should be a good viewing for those who don’t want to see my Detroit Lions embarrass themselves on national television for the 87th year in a row.

Having only seen one Mura match before, there isn’t much to say before this one. In the home game, Spurs took the lead quickly after Dele Alli got and scored a penalty, and Giovanni Lo Celso landed one on the keeper a few minutes later. There was a bit of a lull afterwards, but the traffic was pretty much one-way.

The only exception was a superb volley from Ziga Kous, who tightened the lead to 2-1 in the second half. Nuno Espirito Santo wasn’t going to take any chances, despite being in control, and sent Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Lucas Moura to finish the match. Kane obliged, pulling a hat trick in under 20 minutes. Hopefully no massive action like this needs to be repeated this time around.

Three Themes

Spurs showed a lot of life in the second half against Leeds and gave a glimpse of what Conte expects from an offensive perspective. This game requires a lot of rotation, so it will be curious to see if the reserves are able to pursue this vision. Fortunately, Mura shouldn’t provide a ton of resistance, and the second-choice wingers will have room to move forward.
Few were thrilled to see Harry Winks replace Oliver Skipp in the lineup this weekend, with Tanguy Ndombele being the preferred option. While the Conference League is certainly not the way one would expect to use players like him and Dele Alli, this may perhaps be their chance to audition under the new manager.
Mura has only scored two goals in four group stage games, so the defense shouldn’t be put to the test. Whoever makes up the last three will be able to move forward and show some of the aggression that has been lacking in this team all season. Three points are important, but style can also count for supporters.

Mayor John Cooper and the family of the late Charlie Cardwell joined Assessor Vivian Wilhoite, Metro Clerk Brenda Wynn, Administrator Erica Gilmore, former Administrator Parker Toler, Metro Council Member Freddie O’Connell and former staff members of the late Subway Administrator Charlie Cardwell to dedicate a memorial garden and conference room to Mr. Cardwell, the longtime Subway official who served the city of Nashville for more than 60 years.

Charlie Cardwell died in 2019 from a heart attack and was the longest-serving Metro government employee. He was 83 years old.

The beloved Cardwell was named a trustee in 1993 and had been elected by Nashville voters to six four-year terms.

Prior to Cardwell’s service as an elected administrator, he served as chief financial officer and deputy mayor of Metro Nashville. Cardwell also served as Tennessee State Revenue Commissioner under Governor Ned McWherter.

The Memorial Garden is located in the Howard Office Building, which Cardwell attended as a student when it was formerly a public school and where he served as a trustee after the office moved from its location on the second avenue.

Metro Assessor Vivian Wilhoite thanked those who were able to attend the dedication, saying, “We loved and loved him for so long. He inspired us all.

Current Trustee Erica Gilmore said: “It is an honor to be here today on this momentous occasion as the current Metropolitan Trustee. Honoring the man whose shoes I now walk in is not only a privilege, but an honor.

According to Charlie Cardwell’s longtime friend, former trustee Parker Toler, the idea of the memorial garden and naming the conference room after Cardwell was the result of a discussion between himself, Assessor Vivian Wilhoite and Administrator Gilmore. The trio came up with the idea during the 2020 Christmas open house dedicated to Cardwell’s memory.

“It’s a great spot for the garden,” Toler said. “Just outside of his office as an administrator and the campus of Howard High where he graduated, and close to the area where he grew up.”

Mayor Cooper also delivered remarks at the ceremony, saying he was “honored to join so many friends this morning as we celebrated the Charlie Cardwell Garden. Charlie has dedicated his life to public service.

Douglas County District Attorney Dalia Racine wanted to honor the legacy of murdered teenager Bobby Tillman.

On Monday afternoon, the district attorney’s office named a new conference room in honor of Tillman, a teenager who was killed 11 years ago at a house party.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on the steps of the courthouse before a private groundbreaking ceremony in the conference hall.

“We take a tragedy and turn it into a celebration with possibilities and a purpose”,

Racine told the large rally at the courthouse.

Several elected officials, including Douglas County Commission Chair Romona Jackson Jones, attended both ceremonies.

In addition to Racine, State Court Judge Brian Fortner, who was the lead prosecutor in the murder trial, and Sheriff Tim Pounds both spoke.

Tillman’s mother, Monique Rivarde, also gave a brief speech.

“I want to thank you all for this honor,” said Rivarde.

Balloons were dropped by Tillman’s family.

Fortner praised Rivarde and the family for their courage during the investigation and trial.

“Not once did Monique say a single word of hate,” Fortner said. “They were more of a force to us than we were to them. I asked her how she had kept the hate out of it. She looked at me and said, “Bobby didn’t know how to hate”.

Tillman was only 18 when he was killed on November 7, 2010.

Tracen Frankin, Horace Coleman, Quantinez Mallory and Emmanuel Boykins, unprovoked, attacked Tillman that night, according to the district attorney’s office.

Paramedics found him unconscious at the scene, and he was pronounced dead in hospital.

Boykins pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to life in prison. Coleman, Franklin and Mallory were tried and convicted, and sentenced to life without parole for malicious murder.

“Bobby wasn’t bothering anyone that night,” Pounds said.

“Bobby’s character and motivation is still alive today,” Racine said. “He will serve in the heart of the DA’s office to explain why we do the work we do and serve the community.”

Fortner called him a model citizen.

“Bobby was everyone’s son and friend,” Fortner said. “He’s everything we want in this community. He leaves a legacy of love.

What are some of the things you discovered about Trevor Siemian when he first left for the Saints?
“Yeah, look, he ranked pretty well. I thought the decisions came quickly, you know, he got us in and out of a number of different games. I think we could have helped him. more, you know, on the outside with some of the playmakers. It felt like we got our hands on some balls and were watching the tape we were doing. I would say pretty steady demeanor and pretty calm demeanor. , mostly, you know, when we got behind in those final practices, he made enough plays really (and) got us back in the game. “Yeah, I would say, look, we obviously want to be able to affect the quarterback better. If you just watch the game he’s had more than enough time and then there’s detail in the coverage that we’re clearly better. that and we can be better than and it’s that attention to detail on that side of the ball, it’s frustrating. But if those aren’t cleaned up, you’ll systematically have periodic teams that will have an open receiver thanks to the coverage. So we have to be better than that and we also have to be able to put more pressure on the quarterback. “

Is the plan to stay with Trevor Siemian as a starting quarterback now that Taysom Hill is in good health?
“We’ll see what the plan is this week and every week and keep you posted.”

Douglas County Prosecutor Dalia Racine will dedicate a newly constructed conference room at the Douglas County Courthouse on Monday in memory of Bobby Tillman, who was murdered without cause on the night of November 6, 2010.

The dedication ceremony will begin Monday at 2 p.m. on the steps of the courthouse and the public is invited to attend.

“Bobby was different and wanted to do the right thing. That’s what made him special and made him a leader. Bobby led by example, ”said Monique Rivarde, Bobby’s mother. “I know Bobby is in Heaven and I’m motivated to live my life better so that I can see him again someday.”

The new Bobby Tillman conference room will serve multiple purposes for the district attorney’s office.

“We are happy to have a safe workspace to visit and speak with the victims and their families. This new room will provide our team with space to review the often voluminous evidence for trial and hearings, ”Racine said. “Most importantly, with the dedication of this space in memory of Bobby Tillman, we hope it serves as a constant reminder to our team of the importance of our work in seeking justice and serving our community.”

Tillman was only 18 when he was killed 11 years ago.
